Danfoss DML Series

Danfoss DML hermetic filter driers protect refrigeration and air-conditioning systems from moisture, acids, and solid particles. With these contaminants eliminated, systems are protected from harmful chemical reactions (acid formation by hydrolysis) and abrasive damage to the compressor, expansion device, and solenoid valves.

The DML uses a 100% molecular sieve solid core, giving high drying capacity. The bonded solid-core grains cannot move against each other, eliminating powder formation, and the relatively large drier diameter keeps liquid flow velocity suitably low. As a reference point from Danfoss documentation, a DML 53 can reduce moisture in 8.5 kg of R134a from 1050 ppm to 75 ppm at 24 °C. (The companion DCL series uses an 80/20 molecular sieve/activated alumina blend for acid adsorption in high-condensing-temperature systems.)

How to read a DML number: D = drier, M = 100% molecular sieve, L = liquid line. The first digits are the core volume in cubic inches (1.5, 3, 5, 8, 16, 30, 38, 41, 60, 75). The last digit is the connection in eighths of an inch — 2 = ¼", 3 = ⅜", 4 = ½", 5 = ⅝", 6 = ¾", 7 = ⅞", 9 = 1⅛". No suffix means SAE flare; an "s" suffix means solder (ODF).

Flare stops at ¾"; the 60 and 75 cubic inch driers are solder only. Send the line size, the refrigerant and whether you want flare or solder and we will confirm the code number.

Fit a DML when you are commissioning, replacing a compressor, or the sight glass has gone yellow. After a hermetic burnout, use a DCL or a Catch-All replaceable core instead — a moisture-only drier will not deal with acid.
