Danfoss T2 / TE2 Series

Danfoss T2 and TE2 thermostatic expansion valves regulate the injection of liquid refrigerant into evaporators, controlled by refrigerant superheat. They are especially suitable for liquid injection in "dry" evaporators where superheat at the evaporator outlet is proportional to evaporator load — the workhorse configuration in food retail and commercial refrigeration.

The defining feature is the interchangeable orifice assembly: one valve body accepts the full range of orifice inserts, covering all refrigerants and evaporating temperature ranges. This means easier stocking, easy capacity matching, and better serviceability — a single body plus a set of orifices replaces an inventory of fixed valves. T2 valves have internal pressure equalization; TE2 valves have external equalization (always required on systems with liquid distributors).

Orifice numbers available: 0X, 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 and 06 — nominal capacities from roughly 0.64 kW on the 0X up to 15.5 kW on the 06 (Range N, R404A/R507).

Temperature range codes: N (−40 to +10 °C), NM (−40 to −5 °C, MOP 0 °C), NL (−40 to −15 °C, MOP −10 °C) and B (−60 to −25 °C).

Refrigerants covered: R22, R407C, R134a, R513A, R404A, R507, R407A, R407F, R448A, R449A, R452A, R454C, R455A and R1234yf. Connections are flare × flare ⅜" × ½" (10 × 12 mm) or flare × solder.

How to order — this is where most enquiries go wrong. A T2 or TE2 is not a single part number. It is a thermostatic element plus an interchangeable orifice assembly, and the refrigerant is encoded in the element, not in the valve name. So "TE2 orifice 02" needs an element code as well. Send us the refrigerant, the evaporating temperature range, the duty in kW or TR, and whether you need internal (T2) or external (TE2) equalization, and we will give you the complete build.

Fit a T2 or TE2 when a dry evaporator is hunting, starving or flooding back — and if the duty has changed rather than the valve failing, it is usually the orifice that needs swapping, not the whole valve. Use TE2 wherever a liquid distributor is fitted.
