Danfoss CPCE Series

The Danfoss CPCE is a hot gas bypass regulator used to adapt compressor capacity to actual evaporator load. When system load falls, the CPCE injects hot discharge gas into the low-pressure side, preventing suction pressure — and therefore evaporating temperature — from dropping too low.

The CPCE offers first-class control accuracy with direct connection to the system suction line, so hot gas injection is regulated independent of evaporator pressure drop. Injection should be carried out through a Danfoss LG liquid-gas mixer, which homogeneously mixes the injected hot gas with liquid refrigerant from the expansion valve, preventing high suction superheat.

Types available: Danfoss CPCE 12 (½" flare or ½" solder, about 16.4 kW on R404A), CPCE 15 (⅝" solder, about 24.2 kW) and CPCE 22 (⅞" solder, about 32.0 kW). CPCE 12 is the only size offered in flare as well as solder.

LG liquid-gas mixers — order one with the valve: LG 12–16, LG 12–22, LG 16–28 and LG 22–35, sized on the liquid and gas line diameters. Skipping the mixer is the most common CPCE installation mistake and produces high suction superheat.

Fit a CPCE when a plant must hold a minimum evaporating temperature at low load, an evaporator ices up on part duty, or oil is not returning because gas velocity has collapsed. For smaller, simpler duties the KVC is the compact alternative in the same family.
